With less than three months to prepare, James Pryke and Mike Yeomans will run 70 miles / 112km along Hadrian’s wall (a Roman fortification that stretches from coast to coast on the border between England and Scotland.). Why would two inexperienced runners with so little time to prepare expose themselves to the toughest physical challenge of their lives? The answer is simple – we are doing it for Vega!

Vega is two years old and has had one of the toughest starts to life. As parents it should be a wonderful experience to see your baby born, but due to complications, Vega so nearly didn’t make it at all. She was resuscitated following a traumatic injury at birth that restricted oxygen to her brain and - following a long stay in hospital - was diagnosed with dyskinetic cerebral palsy. Vega has been fighting incredibly hard ever since to recover. Vega's mum, Alba, guides her through a gruelling five hour daily rehabilitation regime, which consists of: Vojta therapy, neuro-muscular and neuro-spinal modulation therapy, vibrational therapy, red light therapy, fixed frame postural weight bearing, reflex integration therapy, kinesiology taping and strengthening therapies. Vega is an absolute trooper and would do more if not for her dysphagia (a symptom of cerebral palsy), that means it takes her a long time to eat. We've never met a harder working person let alone a two year old; Vega truly is one of a kind!

In tribute to Vega's efforts and to raise money for her treatment, James decided to try and match her hard work with a big challenge. That's why James and his friend Mike will run, walk and maybe crawl a gruelling 70 mile ultramarathon to raise funds for much needed stem cell treatment to turbo charge her recovery.

Treatments and developments for cerebral palsy have constantly evolved over the last decade and the latest stem cell treatments have shown truly life changing results for children with Vega's condition. James and Alba have tried their best to leave no stone unturned for Vega, having even moved closer to her physio therapist, however, some of the most promising and newest therapies are out of reach. If James and Alba can raise the funds needed to provide Vega with the leap forward that this treatment can provide then her life will improve dramatically.
