Story
The Salvation Army is a registered charity and church working in 120 countries worldwide and is one of the largest and most diverse providers of social welfare in the world. In the UK and Republic of Ireland this work includes more than 800 Salvation Army social service centres and community churches. We provide unconditional friendship, support and very practical help to people in crisis and need and work with children, older people, homeless people and those dealing with drug and/or alcohol addiction.
In my role as a Regional Manager in Homelessness Services Unit (HSU) within the Salvation Army I have had the privilege of line managing Anti Human Trafficking services in the North of England when those services were in our portfolio of services. I have seen true transformation, met some wonderful people who with the help of various services have gained independence and are to experience a new life despite past trauma.
Christmas 2017 I lost my wife who died from her brave battle against cancer, she was always helping other people and during her chemotherapy treatment met a lady who had been through such trauma of trafficking. My wife was deeply moved by this lady's story and kept in touch with her on a regular basis. I am running the marathon in memory of my wife Ann Marie and raising money for The Salvation Army (Modern Slavery Campaign) Human Trafficking Service - Please give generously - Thank you
I recently have a new person in my life Karen she knew Ann Marie as she worked with her at the Salvation Army in Darlington several years ago. My faith has opened and closed many doors and I now start on a new journey. April 2019.
