2017 will be my daughter, Theresa, & my 10th year
of running in Race for Life. My two granddaughters aged 13 & 15 have taken part in the last 8 races and 10 year old Leah, has taken part 6 times. Lily was only 5 mths when she took part in 2015. So 3 generations taking part! We hope our efforts will help more people survive!
The reason why we do it:
My son-in-law, at the age of 29, was diagnosed with testicular cancer
and his mother with breast cancer in the same week, November 2007. Both of them with operations and chemo beat the battle and have now been cleared; both survived. My mother suffered with various types of cancer over the years and finally died in 2005. My father died at the young age of 52 with a type of cancer that today is one of the most treatable. My daughter is so thankful to still have her husband, the father of 3 lovely girls (& now 4) that she decided to do something to help others survive. It is for this reason that we want to raise as much as we can for Cancer Research, without which many would not be here today.
We raise funds throughout the year with friends and family donating items, which I sell on eBay & Facebook, then putting monies made on our sponsor form. This has proved to be very successful and saves asking the same people to sponsor us each year. It is an important charity which needs our support.
