The OMV was founded in 1974 with two aims: To give people with disabilities opportunities for experiences away from their day to day lives. To give young people (17 - 29) the experience of caring for people with disabilities, of volunteering and of organising these activities and events.

Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Order of Malta Volunteers (Hospitaller Ltd) gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!

It is my intention to ride from St.David's in Pembrokeshire to Rome along the via Francigena on my wheelchair trike, pictured, in 2009, from Early June to mid  August.

The ride will not take more than two and  half months, doing about 20miles per day, much as pilgrims to Rome did in Medieval times. The Route itself has been sponsored by various EU organisations as one worthy of renewal for the 21st century. It is journeyed every year by several hundred people, a number of them priests going to collect their holy orders personally from HH. The Via Francigena
has its own international organisation for development, and goes over the St. Bernard Pass.

My own interest is following the footsteps made to Rome by Hywel Dda (Howell the good), the ancient king of Wales in 945ad, whose life and times  I have researched
in recent years. His grandfather also made the journey.

I made the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostel in 1997, and I hope that this journey will be as enjoyable as that was.
