In June 2015, Garry and I completed the 26-mile Kiltwalk and we absolutely loved it - couldn’t wait to do it again! In September that year, Garry developed a back condition called Cauda Equina Syndrome, which resulted in a disc in his back prolapsing. Initially it was feared he wouldn’t walk again but he put everything into recovering and has been back on his feet for a long time albeit he has been left with lack of balance, difficulties walking long distances and permanent nerve damage which can leave him in pain and discomfort.

In spite of all this, Garry really wants to do the Wee Wander at Aberdeen’s Kiltwalk. He’s just that kind of guy. It’s just short of 4 miles and in spite of his difficulties, I’ll probably be holding him back (whilst resembling a certain Austin Powers character with my kilt on!)

We decided to raise money for the most amazing local charity, We Too. This was set up by a lovely woman called Phionna who realised quickly that there was very little in the way of appropriate activities for additional needs children to undertake - even the sort of things like going to the cinema or going bowling that other families can do with relative  ease. Our son Lucas is Autistic and has Global Developmental Delay and we have been to a few We Too events - we have been to the cinema twice (there are no adverts, the volume is lower and nobody bats an eye when people are wandering around or sitting on the floor) and the relaxed sessions We Too and Cadona’s to offer including meeting Santa. These are just a couple of the many, many activities Phionna and We Too arrange. They work tirelessly to make as much as possible accessible to everyone.

Times are hard for everyone and there are so many wonderful charities out there. But if you could sponsor us it would be much appreciated. Your money will go towards wonderful things. 

A lot of things with Lucas have to be decided on the day but if everything aligns, Lucas might be able to do some of the walk with us. So if you see Lucas, Garry with his walking sticks and Fat Bas*ard on the railway line, give us a wave!
