Companions: Geoff Clarkson, David Bayley and Peter Venner. Date / Time: September 07 / 23:00 Hours. Location: Belfast Hotel (Bar). My condition: Too much alcohol in bloodstream and ready for any challenge.

It was at this time that Geoff made mention of a personal challenge for 2008 (having achieved it twice previously) he was planning to ride from Lands End to John O’Groats a distance of 1,000 miles for Charity.  This sounded an exciting challenge and knowing of a good Charitable cause and mistakenly believing that a combustion engine would be involved I eagerly agreed to participate.  The next morning over breakfast it became clear that the word ride was linked to cycle and not motorbike, and it immediately dawned upon me of the uphill challenge ahead.  On reflection, I thought well, I had a good Charitable cause in mind, had been keen to get physically fit and see more of the country, so why not!  Since January I have been quite serious about training, but wonder whether the body will ever be fully prepared for the forthcoming challenge.  Having said that I am very much looking forward to it and feel sure that with fellow cyclists Geoff Clarkson and Dan Bridgeman we will achieve our target of 1,000 miles in 14 days.

The Charity I have chosen is very close to my heart. My son James has moderate learning difficulties and for the last 5 years has attended Carwarden House School in Camberley. The school is recognised as a Beacon school for teaching children with moderate learning difficulties and from our own experience delivers excellent support and learning to all children that attend.  Currently, the school has a project underway to build a vocational training centre to better prepare the children for employment in the wider world, and this is a project that I am only too keen to support.  Therefore, please support me to surpass my target of £5,000.00 I assure you it is going to a wonderful cause.
