We support vulnerable children in the UK to transform their lives

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I'm taking part in Borneo - The Ultimate Challenge to help raise funds for Barnardo's! This challenge is taking place from 7th - 17th May 2010.

Please sponsor me to reach the 4095m peak of Mt Kinabalu, cycle 170km and then white water raft down the Pandas River - all in six days! This is a huge feat for me as I'm not exactly the most athletic person, but I feel that this is a worthwhile challenge for a fantastic cause! I also want to be able to help those kids who may not have been so fortunate in life, but who deserve every chance to have a better future.

I chose Barnardo's as the charity I wanted to raise money for as I feel it is a charity which does a lot of good, both in this country and all over the world.

Here are some examples of what your donation could do:

Just £10 could pay for an emergency wash and personal care kit for a young person who is homeless. £25 can provide special toys and books for a family with a severely disabled child, and £50 covers the weekly cost of running a community youth group for children living in disadvantaged areas.

Your donation is secure, see the privacy policy for further details.

If you're a UK taxpayer please make sure you tick the Gift Aid box - Barnardo's can receive 28% extra at no cost to you.

Thank you so much for viewing this page and donating! Please pass the link for this page onto all of your friends and ask them to donate too - every penny counts!

Updates

2nd September 2009:
It has been a LONG while since I last updated this page! I have been trying to raise as much money as possible, and have finally hit the half way mark :) I have also officially started training as from this week! Will keep you updated to how that goes - lets just say, I have only been exercising a few days and I am aching like crazy!

17th June 2009.
Such a long break between updates - sorry! Been a rough month for me health wise, and to top it off - I now have chicken pox! Means my training is currently zero!
On a plus point, went to an event this weekend and with the help of Jonathan Woodward managed to raise £300! This will be added to my page as and when we can pay it into the bank (lots and lots of coin bags!). Thank you to everyone who donated over the weekend - this will take the total to over £1000! You guys are amazing!!

28th April 2009.
Back from Starfury Convention's T1 and would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who donated over the weekend and helped me raise £205! IT is much appreciated. Special thanks to Maria, Adi, Pauline and Caroline for their generous donations :)

14th April 2009.
It has been a while since I updated this as I haven't been up to much - mainly trying to get fit (which is going very slowly!). Donations are still coming in though, and I am pleased to say I won a £100 donation for sponsoring the 1 millionth justgiving page! Was very happy about that :)

17th March 2009.
I have now started training for Borneo. Right now I am just trying to improve my general fitness by doing some cardio exercise twice a week and weights twice a week! Wish me luck!

4th March 2009.
It has been a while since I updated as I have been a busy bee with both work and uni! This page has been up just over a month now and I have already raised £360.50! Thank you SO much to everyone that has donated so far :) If you guys keep donating at this rate we will raise the amount needed in no time!

17th February 2009.
Donations have been a little slow recently, but thank you to everyone who has donated - I can't believe I am nearly at the £300 mark already! I have now given up alcohol within the house and the swear box is still going strong (I donated another £3 in to it just last night! I haven't started any full on training yet, but I am making an effort to walk a lot more than I currently do as a starting point.

If anyone has any suggestions on other ways to raise money or to keep fit - feel free to email me at gemmanoakes@googlemail.com!
