Story

Day 5 – We’ve made it!

The weather hasn’t been kind to us on the trip and the final day proved no exception, with storm clouds accompanying us from our overnight stop at Chertsey, through Walton, Hampton and Kingston. Only when we left Kingston Bridge behind us did the clouds part and we were looking forward to a sunny arrival at our destination when disaster struck. With the finish in sight, we put in a final sprint for the line and Alan put so much effort into this that one of his oars broke! Luckily this happened after 99 miles and not earlier in the trip! Despite this set back we managed to make it through Teddington Lock, and into our final mooring spot. We’d made it!

With 100 miles and 35 locks behind us, we are exhausted and have blisters on our blisters, but we’re glad that we’ve been able to do something to support the fantastic work done by Sobell House.

Thanks to everyone who has supported us.

Chris, Alan and Jon

PS – After celebrating well into Friday night, we then had to raise our hungover bodies for one last effort on Saturday morning and row 10 miles back upstream from Teddington to Walton to return the boat!

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

2007 marks the 50th birthday of NOP and to mark this, GfK NOP staff are embarking on a range of activities to raise money for our chosen charities.  As part of this fundraising effort, three Directors from GfK's Mystery Shopping and Field Marketing team in Oxford will be embarking on their own personal challenge.

Chris White, Alan Holliday and Jon Lock will be rowing 100 miles along the Thames, from Oxford to London, in a traditional rowing skiff. None of us have any rowing experience, so we're not sure what we've let ourselves in for!

Why are we doing this?  Because the Sobell House Hospice in Oxford needs our (and your) help. So please dig deep and support us in whatever way you can.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us.  The Sobell House Hospice Charity will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.  And GfK NOP will match the sum raised, so any donation you make will automatically be doubled.
