For over 30 years Scannappeal have been raising funds to support local hospitals across Buckinghamshire. Just last year the charity completed a four year campaign to raise £500,000 to fund state of the art 3D breast screening equipment for Wycombe hospital.

This year Scannappeal is trying to raise £30,000 to purchase biopsy targeting equipment which will enable additional biopsies to be undertaken within the Breast Unit.

On 20 April, I will join a team of 30 cyclists taking on a 330km challenge from London to Amsterdam. Together we aim to make every km count and raise as much money as we can to support Scannappeal’s work. The facts: 

1. The Breast Unit sees approximately 120 symptomatic new cases per week, up to 5 of these cases will require a biopsy. 

2.  80–100 cases per month are recalled for assessment from routine screening, up to 25 of those will need X-ray guided biopsy. 

3.  Improved biopsy times will reduce the “time to first offered treatment” period. 

4.  Biopsies will be carried out on almost every area of the breast, increasing the chance of getting an accurate diagnosis.
