Over the weekend of 18 - 19 November I will be participating in Hong Kong Trailwalker, aiming to walk 100 kilometres across the mountains of the New Territories in Hong Kong in around 24 hours without a break. The trail rises and falls the height of Everest. It's a team event and mine includes my husband, Alastair (chief bag carrier), as well as two close friends, Julian Johnson (assistant bag carrier) and Fraser White (tea-maker). Training is proving to be a challenge for Julian in particular. He lives in Qatar and his hill preparation consists of walking up and down the 219 floors of the Shell Centre in Doha; now that's real dedication!

What was originally a Gurkha training exercise has become a major fund-raising event for Oxfam and our goal is to raise as much money for this charity as we can. The alleviation of poverty around the world is a worthy cause and recent events such as the food crisis in East Africa as well as a repeat of last year's catastrophic floods in Pakistan serve to emphasise this.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
