Story
One of my new year resolutions for 2008 was to run a marathon. I left it a bit late to get a place in one of the majors but Copenhagen will do fine and it'll still be 26.2 miles wherever I run one!
It also enables me to pick a charity to run for that means a lot to my wife and me. Georgie suffers badly from endometriosis. She was diagnosed in 1999 after years of pain and seeing several doctors. We now know that Georgie has Stage 4 endometriosis which is the most severe form of the disease. It is also the reason we cannot have children.
What is frightening is just how little is known about endometriosis: most people have never heard of it; the cause is still unknown and, whilst there are treatments, there is as yet no cure.
Endometriosis UK is seeking to change this by raising general awareness of the disease; lobbying government and health bodies to achieve standards of care and treatment and campaigning for funding endometriosis research. Perhaps most importantly, they provide information and support to women with endometriosis; support which has helped Georgie to understand more about the disease and to talk to fellow sufferers.
So if I can do my bit to at least raise awareness and hopefully some sponsorship to support Endometriosis UK then all the training will be worthwhile. I'm paying for the Copenhagen trip myself so 100% of the sponsorship will go to the charity.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Endometriosis UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Please sponsor me and many thanks for your support.
