Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.
Our daughter, Emily, was born in 2002 weighing just 3lbs 3oz and at 6 months old was diagnised with Russell-Silver syndrome, a rare genetic growth disorder. Ongoing research into this syndrome has enabled various genetic faults to be pinpointed in relation to RSS, and in 2007, Emily tested positive to a methylation fault on the chromosone 11p15. Whilst this doesn't mean much to a non-geneticist, having a definite diagnosis was a huge relief to us as parents, and means that all future research into this syndrome can be carried out on a gene-specific basis, meaning that further research will help the lives of many affected children in the future.
The Child Growth Foundation has offered us much support and help over the past 7 years and I know they will always figure highly as an important part of our lives. They help many families each year, either with getting diagnoses for their children or funding much-needed research, and also through organising an annual convention and putting affected families in touch with one another. The power of talking through a situation with someone else in the same boat should never be under-estimated.
An intrepid group of us have decided to take on the Great Glen Way - 78 miles of walking with a dramatic back-drop of the Scottish highlands, and - just to increase the challenge - we're squashing it into 3.5 days instead of the suggested 5. With distances of between 10.5 and 22 miles per day, we would love it if everyone would consider making it worth our while by digging deep!
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Child Growth Foundation gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please dig deep and sponsor us right now! Thank you very much.
