We breed and train guide dogs to give blind people freedom and mobility

Story

Guide Dogs for the Blind breed and train life-changing guide dogs which provide mobility and freedom to blind and partially sighted people.

From our base in Headingley, we currently support 176 working guide dogs across North and West Yorkshire, and we are training dozens more.  The lifetime cost of each guide dog is approximately £52,000, and with no government funding, we rely heavily on the generosity of the general public.

During Guide Dogs Week we have dozens of events going on across the whole of North and West Yorkshire, in line with our MOVE IT FOR MONEY theme, including a 176km cycle challenge in Headingley on 5th October, a collection all day at Leeds Train Station on 7th October, and a huge sponsored dog walk and family fun event at Bolton Abbey on 9th October!

Please support our Guide Dogs Week events by making a small donation and help us continue our vital, life-changing work in Yorkshire.

Thank you.

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.
