Story

Welcome to the Disco3.co.uk Help for Heroes Rally 2010 JustGiving Page

In June 2010, Stumpy, Willy Eckerslike and NoDo$h, plus assorted friends and family, will taking part in an adventure across Europe!!

We are going to be let loose on Europe as part of the Help For Heroes European Rally to raise money for the Charity.

ABOUT THE RALLY

The HELP FOR HEROES EUROPEAN 4x4 RALLY 2010 follows the path and tells the story of the Allied Invasion through Europe and includes parts fabled by the Band of Brothers book and television series. As young men, who knew extraordinary bravery and extraordinary fear, the Allied Forces landed in France early on D-Day morning – 6th June 1944. The liberation of Europe had commenced.

The event will start at Noon on Saturday 19th June 2010 at a secret location in North Wiltshire. It will be a 1650 mile expedition encompassing 6 countries in 10 days. This non-speed event comprising a maximum of 30+ teams will be part history tour, fun competition, part off-road driving and part club-type social, open to all types of 4x4 vehicles. The money raised by teams will be donated to our chosen charity, HELP FOR HEROES.

After using byways on Salisbury Plain we will all go to Portsmouth to embark on the ferry over to France. In addition to Normandy, the H4H Rally route will visit the Market Garden and Rhine offensives at , , where on 17 September 1944, in the largest airborne operation ever seen thousands of paratroopers descended from the sky by parachute or glider up to 150 km behind enemy lines.

The route then moves south, to Bastogne in Belgium where, in the coldest winter for decades, the Germans made a final push – 'the Battle of the Bulge'. Towards Germany, the rally path then visits a Maginot Line fortification in Alsace, France, then into Germany and Dachau with its horrors of war.

We end our journey at Hitler's "impenetrable" Eagle's Nest at on 29th June 2010.

THE TEAMS

TEAM RELENTLESS

Alan Brice (NoDo$h) - Driver.  Age 39

Alan hails from Dorset, living in harmony with his chickens, his cider and his chainsaw.  Alan enjoys dismantling and reassembling his collection of Land Rovers and never ceases to marvel at the things he can make with the leftovers.

When pretending to earn a living Alan spends his days googling for smart-alec responses and generally cursing his misfortune at not being born in the 1800s, when short people got the respect they deserved, damnit!  The rest of the time he pretends to be a consultant business analyst.  It pays the bills.

Iain Lambert (10forCash) - Co Driver and Navigator.  Age.... CLASSIFIED

Iain has been known to reside in CLASSIFIED where he is often found putting a shine on his TOP SECRET with a huge CLASSIFIED on his face.  When he's not greasing a DELETED IN THE INTEREST OF NATIONAL SECURITY or giving a CLASSIFIED a good service he can be found with a pint of REMOVED IN THE INTEREST OF COMMON DECENCY inside him.

Some say Iain used to wire doorbells for the WO2 at the Kandahar Naafi.  All we know is you wouldn't want to be the one pressing the button.....

and why TEAM RELENTLESS?

If we told you, we'd have to kill you.....

TEAM BLACK SHEEP

Peter aka Willy Eckerslike - Driver. 276

Co Driver TBA.

Pete does something with oil.  Some have suggested he may work in the petroleum industry, while others have hinted that he may just be the greasiest and most hirsute specialist male stripper in the world.  Only you can decide.

TEAM BRITISH DISCOVERY

British Discovery Rally Team members are, Paul Smith and  Simon Harbidge (Stumpy), We are an Uncle and Nephew team, raising money for a charity that is very close to our own hearts. Simon has a brother in law and Paul has two sons actively serving in the forces. (Hasten to add they are all fit and well).

Our armed forces are fighting daily in horrific conditions, sadly losing friends and colleagues, many of them suffering life changing injuries.

The charity supports the injured personnel returning home to family and friends to rebuild their lives after sacrificing so much for our country, this is why we feel a need to do our bit to help.

THE VEHICLES WE ARE USING

Simon:  Landrover Discovery D3.

Alan:  Land Rover Discovery D3

Pete:  Land Rover Defender 90.  There's probably some oil in it somewhere.

THE CHARITY WE ARE RAISING FOR

Help for Heroes provides financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served and are currently serving in the Armed Forces, and their dependants. This event is independently organised; the sole beneficiary being the Help For Heroes Charity.
