Story

We're raising sponsorship for an exciting new educational project called Hackney Pirates by taking part in a mass pirate-themed abseil off a 4-story building on the 30th October 2010.

The Hackney Pirates is an innovative education project aimed at supplementing the school system. The project works to harness the skills of local volunteers to help develop core literacy skills and creative ability in young people in Dalston, by giving young people one to one attention in an unconventional learning environment. The Hackney Pirates ran a successful pilot over the summer and is now ready to develop a permanent centre.

The money raised through this sponsored abseil will give the project the financial boost they need to develop a sustainable business plan and secure a lease for a building that they can turn into an after-school drop-in centre for the young people of Dalston.. The funds raised from this event will help make the Hackney Pirates become a permanent resource for young people in the Dalston area. Please help out generously!

All funds will be transferred to the Centre for Innovation in Voluntary Action (CIVA), a UK registered charity (Charity Number 1122095), who are kindly hosting this Just Giving page for the Hackney Pirates. CIVA will then transfer all funds raised to the Hackney Pirates.
