Fundraising for RNIB - Royal National Institute of Blind People
Story
Hi!
We have lived a healthy comfortable life in UKsupported by our respective families and friends. However, when we look around we see many others who are perhaps not so fortunate and have decided to do something that will contribute towards improving their daily life. With this objective in mind, this October 2008, we are climbing Mount Kilimanjaro inAfrica to raise some funds.
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest point inAfrica. This snow-capped summit is the world's highest freestanding mountain at 19,340 feet (5,895 meters).To put into context climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is the equivalent of climbing sixteen Empire State buildings!
We expect to encounter many dangers whilst being on the trek. These include sunstroke, altitude sickness and hyperthermia to name a few. However, we are motivated by our good cause to rise above these factors and are dedicated to do our best for ourselves and our chosen charity.
Why support us
Carrying out this trek will enable us raise funds and awareness for the RNIB SunshineHouseSchool in Northwood. This non maintained special school is for children who are blind or partially sighted with multiple disabilities. It is part of the Royal National Institute ofBlind people. As this is a local school we will be able to see how the sponsorship money will be used to benefit the children.
This challenge has required dedication, commitment and countless hours of training at the gym for the past four months. The purpose of these four months training is to give ourselves optimum capability to successfully complete the trek.
We are quietly confident that we have put in the required work rate (although at times it has been a struggle!!) to really give it a go and we have been using this cause as our motivation.
