Thanks for visiting my Marathon de Sables fundraising page.

I'VE DONE IT!

The longest, toughest Marathon des Sables ever in its 25th year saw us 'run' 250km across the Moroccan Sahara in 7 long arduous days.  Temperatures reached 52 degrees as I endured heat exhaustion followed by gastroenteritis for the 50 mile stage........

Mentally, I'm done but the thought of raising money for Mencap kept me going on those long sandy stages.

Now a bit about Mencap for whom I'm hoping to raise as much money as possible:

Mencap work with people with a learning disability to change laws and services, challenge prejudice and directly support thousands of people to live their lives as they choose.

Mencap are such an important charity for so many people.  Without the work of Mencap many lives would be much more challenging than they currently are.

Mencap do so many different things. For example:

• 1.  Supporting people with a learning disability to get a job or take a college course, or helping them to find a place of their own to live in.
• 2.  Offering advice about things like respite care, individual budgets or transport services.
• 3.  Running residential/day care services and leisure groups that are so important to so many people with a learning disability, and their families and supporters.
• 4.  Supporting people with a learning disability to be part of their local communities.
• 5.  Lobbying the government to change laws so that more and more people with a learning disability can have control over their own lives.
