Hello, well how did I get here? Last April I was sat on the sofa, watching the London Marathon with Rach, James and Rob. I was making my way through some serious hangover snacks after a saturday night out whilst watching thousands of people run. I have to say I squirmed a bit. After I'd finished off the last snack, I thought I should/could do that.  Over the last few months that thought became a possibility and now a reality. So here I am,  to reassure you I have been training. My thought process is, if Jade Goody can manage 19 miles on a training regime of curry and beer (allegedly) surely I can do this?. So here we are. My focus on the cold wet evenings and mornings is the anticipated sense of achievement when I cross the line and raise money for charity.

I definitely require some assistance with the latter and any sponsorship will be greatly received.

Why St John Ambulance? Well, you see them everywhere, don't you. At any major sporting event they are there; providing vital (and sometimes life-saving) emergency care. Here's just some of the services they provided at a 'typical' London Marathon:

 1700 doctors, nurses, paramedics and trained First Aiders; 34 mobile units, 45 First Aid stations, 8 specialist cardiac teams with the latest Automated External Defibrillators (£2500 each), 68 ambulances (£40,000 each), 88lbs petroleum jelly, 1300 plasters and 5000 foil blankets. As a charity they receive no government funding and rely on public and corporate donations.

In addition St John Ambulance provide a network of services providing care and support for the vulnerable in our society in particular the homeless and the elderly. They also provide support and services for young people who care for parents or family members with disabilities, illnesses and addictions. They also assist in running contact centres for children.
