Thanks very much for coming to view our page, we thought that it would be a nice idea to tell you a bit about ourselves and why we have chosen to cycle the 778 miles from Henley to Barcelona in Aid of The Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance.
We are both 20 years old and live in a small village called Benson in Oxfordshire and have known each other since primary school. We are both currently studying at the Nottingham Trent University (coincidentally i must add!). We both ran the London marathon in 2004, Ed in aid of Cancer Research and Luke for The PSP Association, so we enjoy a challenge. We have Played Rugby for Henley Since we were 6 years old and over the years have unfortunately seen a number of our team mates and opposition being air lifted to hospital by the Chiltern Air Ambulance. When we heard that the air ambulance recieves absoloutely no funding from the government we thought that it would be an extremly worthwhile charity to raise money for. The thing about the Air ambulance is that you never know when you, a member of your family or a friend may need it.
We are planning to cycle from Henley-on-Thames to Barcelona in July 2007. Taking into consideration the terrain (The pyranees especially) and the temperature (The south of France in the height of summer) we have worked out that it should take us about 14 days. we will set off from Henley and head towards Portsmouth, take the ferry across the channel to Caen and head south through France, hopefully ending up In Barcelona. Niether of us have ever done any serious cycling before and are looking forward, if not slightly nervous about the next 10 months and the ride itself.
Any amount, no matter how large or small, that people could donate would be a fantastic help. Below are a few facts about how invaluable donations are to the Air Ambulance.
£150 buys an hour's fuel for the air ambulance airlifting four patients;
£40 buys the fuel to airlift one patient to hospital (15 minutes approx);
£15 buys second class postage stamps to send information to fund raisers
We will keep the website updated with how preparations are going, also we are currently constructing our own website. On this we will do a diary so that you can follow our progress and also we will upload photos of us in action.
Thanks so much for you time, and if you can, please donate to this invaluable charity.
All the best
Luke Hearn and Ed Dupee
