Help Shuhaney Walk · 21 June 2012

Caudwell Children transforms the lives of disabled children across the UK. We act as a safety net for families who are unable to gain the help they need. We provide family support services, equipment, treatment and therapies for disabled children and their families across the UK.

Story

Thank you for visiting Shuhaney’s page.

December 2018 Update: Thanks to your support and generosity, Shuhaney has now undergone her life-changing SDR operation at Alder Hey Hospital and is now starting the long journey of rehabilitation.

After years of living with tight muscles in her legs, Shuhaney now requires daily exercise and professional support with her physiotherapy and strength training. Using equipment at home and in school, along with regular trips to specialist rehabilitation centres she will build up the range of movement she requires to begin to walk independently.

The road ahead is a long one but with hard work and determination, Shuhaney should make improvements quickly and regularly.

We thank everyone for their continued support, we could not have got this far without you!

2018 UPDATE: Following the tragic passing of her Father, the original fundraising appeal to send Shuhaney to the USA for treatment was put on hold. During that time the treatment Shuhaney needs has been made available in the UK and the family are now re-starting the appeal with the hope of giving Shuhaney the future she deserves.

You can help Shuhaney get her wish to walk by donating today.

Shuhaney is 14 years old and has Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy. One of the symptoms is that it causes a painful, tightness in her legs, so she is unable to walk independently.

National charity, Caudwell Children, is supporting Shuhaney and other children like her by raising money to fund ground breaking treatments and physiotherapy which can help children with Cerebral palsy walk unaided for the first time.

Shuhaney needs help with all her daily needs, from getting out of bed to getting up and downstairs.  Most of the time she has to use a walking frame to get around, but when tired she has to use a wheelchair as she is unable to stand unsupported.  Often Shuhaney has nobody to play with as she can’t run around like her peers,

We need your help to raise £25,000 to send Shuhaney to Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool to have Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR), a complicated procedure which involves cutting some of the sensory nerve fibres that come from the muscles and enter the spinal cord. The operation reduces spasticity, giving Shuhaney the opportunity to walk unaided for the first time.

Following the surgery she will undergo several years of specialist physiotherapy and rehabilitation to re-build her muscles and teach herself how to walk again.

Eventually after a great deal of hard work and therapy, Shuhaney will hopefully walk unaided and pain-free.  This will give her the life that she deserves and I hope that you will help us in making her dream come true.

To do this we need donations for as much or as little as you can give, to raise the much needed funds for this bright, happy, fun-loving little girl and her friends.

Anybody interested in supporting the Help Shuhaney Walk appeal is asked to contact Caudwell Children on ben.sutcliffe@caudwellchildren.com or donate online at
