Story

Several months ago, 12 of us embarked on the planning process of organising a golf outing - just for fun. We tried to establish names, available dates and even peoples' willingness to make a holiday of it, by travelling somewhere and golfing for a week or so. From this discussion, someone suggested taking part in MacMillans Longest Day of Golf, to raise funds for MacMillan Cancer Support. Personally, I took part in the event last year and was keen to do it again, so was immediately behind the idea. There was something different about this time though. The man who suggested organising the event was no ordinary man - it was Lawrence Stewart - the Hibs fan who has been a victim of cancer (and beaten it) on 8 occassions. His story is truly miraculous, and motivated the 12 of us to get behind the idea. Soon after getting our courses organised (details to follow) and the teams arranged (3x4balls), we put out the feelers to get in touch with media sources, to help publicise the event. And what a response we got in the space of just 24 hours!!! The Sun, The Daily Record, our local West Lothian Courier and The Metro have all published stories on our incredible talisman and the reasons why we are looking to push ourselves through 4 rounds of golf. We have the teams, we have the courses and we have the motivation for doing this. Our efforts have skyrocketed in recent months and now, we just need your support. The Event: We're playing 4 rounds of golf, in ONE day, on the 23rd of July, 2009. Our itinerary as follows: Bathgate Golf Course - 6.00am Uphall Golf Course - 10.00am Harburn Golf Course - 14.00pm Dalmahoy Golf Course - 18.00pm There will be tears, sweat and blood shed during this golfing marathon- all in the name of raising money for a charity which helps so many people on a daily basis. The work of MacMillan nurses is truly unparalleled as anyone who has been affected by cancer will tell you. We're all fairly excited about the event and possibilities of just how big it can become. We're looking for your support to help us along the way. Our target is an ambitious £10,000 in total. I'm aware finances are being closely monitored, as a result of the credit crunch, but we would appreciate you giving whatever you can, be it 50p, £1, £5, or something a bit more - whatever you can afford will be a great help to our goal along the way. Thanks for taking the time out to visit the page and read through our reasons and our goals for taking part in this momentous day. And thanks in advance if you have chosen to help us. I can't begin to tell you how much it means to us all! Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
