Right, lets get the sob story out of the way...

As some of you are aware I lost my amazing Dad to Cancer on the 21st December 2008. After initially being given 6 weeks he battled with a Brain Tumor for 18months. Without a doubt he is the bravest and strongest person I've ever had in my life and not a day goes by without him being in my thoughts.

We cared for dad at home right up until the Autumn of 2008 when he had to go into Thames Hospicecare, initially for some respite. Mum and me were apprehensive as we always wanted him to be at home surrounded by family and those who cared for him, to me a Hospice was a clinical place where people went for their last days. Looking back i can honestly say i have never come across such amazing people. Many of the people within the charity are volunteers, excluding the nurses. They care for people 24/7 365 days a year.

The Hospice mainly rely on donations and sponsorships from organised events.. some of which they organise themselves. However, i decided i wanted to do something a little different... Dad was a big car enthusiast, a motor engineer by trade but would turn his hand to anything. Also big into his racing. We always talked about doing a rally together in his old Beetle but sadly he became too ill.

So here i am, having bought my own Beetle last year and toying with it for awhile I've decided im going to do a rally in his memory, and at the same time raise some money for a good cause. There will be several of us, all in Beetle's completing a 5 day rally from Lands End to John O'Groats. Each of us will be doing it for our own charity. Mine being Thames Hospicecare.
