Her bo</span><span class="textexposedshow"><span style="font-size: 8.5pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: &amp;amp;amp;quot; color: gray; border: none windowtext 1.0pt; mso-border-alt: none windowtext 0cm; padding: 0cm;">ne marrow was failing and we were told that the marrow needed to be replaced. The news was devastating; however the doctor was confident that for Devaanshi, it was the best way forward. We were asked to come back the following week and have our bloods taken for a test to see if any of us would be a suitable match for Devaanshi. &nbsp; It turned out that our son, Dushyant, who was only two years old at the time was a suitable match for her. Everything was explained to us by the doctor who would be in charge of the transplant and we were allocated a Clinical Nurse Specialist. She was invaluable; she answered all our questions and lay many of our anxieties to rest. Though our son was so young, we did not have any worries for his well being as every step of the way, everything was explained to us and we were reassured that his safety and health were also paramount. &nbsp; Dushyant donated his bone marrow at around 8.30am, on 27th April 2007, and was drinking Ribena and eating a packet of crisps at 2.30pm the same afternoon. He was then sent home the same day. He was given iron supplement for 6 weeks and that was it. He then went on to donate his marrow the following year at the age of three as Devaanshi needed a little more. Four years on, Devaanshi, whilst still on treatment is enjoying life at high school as much as she can and Dushyant is a healthy, normal six year old. &nbsp; We were very lucky that we had a matched donor within our family. Sadly, not everyone does and there are still children who are looking for suitable donors and are relying on the kindness of others to keep them alive.
