Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On 27th January 2008 I lost my balance during a football match, other players went up for a header around me and landed on my head. I fell onto my side tried to get up and found I couldn’t move. I was paralysed from the neck down. I was airlifted to hospital Romford, where I had tests carried out and was found to have dislocated my neck at C4/C5. I was put in Traction for three days then had an operation where they put 4 pieces of titanium in my neck.

Two days later I started to get slight feeling back in one of my toes. I was then transferred to Stoke Mandeville NSIC, where I spent 5 months in rehab. 8 months after my accident I started work again part time 8-12 office based, I also played my first game of cricket again. One year after my accident I went back onto site full time as a site engineer on construction sites. It is currently 17 months since my accident, I work full time for Skanska on site 0730-1800, I go to the gym 2/3 times a week, play cricket once a week and run 3 times a week ( currently about 35 miles a week) and also take my dog out for walks every day.

I had a very narrow escape and still have a slight hole in the centre of my spinal cord to remind me, however I want to raise money for a worthwhile charity like SIA to help others that weren’t as fortunate as I was. I have seen the help that SIA give first hand and want to promote their work to my friends, family and work colleagues. This is also true for my brother in law that has promised to run with me and to push me the whole distance! All 26.2 miles Stu!!!

So please give generously, the SIA do some wonderful work and this can be seen at www.spinal.co.uk

Thank you from Iain and Stuart....
