Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

The Challenge – Cycling from Lands End to John O’ Groats (LEJOG) in 15 days on 15th June 2010 – 30th June 2010 approx 76 miles per day, over 1000 miles to raise money for Yorkhill Children’s Foundation.

There will only be two of us doing this. We are Graeme Henderson and Ian Shand. We are both in our early 30's and have known each other for more than 20 years and been close pals for 15 of them! Together we have 'enjoyed' a few adventures over the years but this will be our hardest task and definitely a one off.

The idea for us doing this came up one day whilst we were climbing a Munro back in September 2008. Originally it was Graeme's idea, but after some persuasion Ian finally agreed, against his better judgement.

The plan is to leave Glasgow (14th June) and travel to Penzanze by train, arriving at 8am the following day. From there we will travel to Lands End then begin our adventure. Each day we hope to cover around 70-80 miles a day, visiting new places and hopefully meeting good people along the way. Each night we will be staying in Youth Hostels and maybe enjoy a few beverages each night with the locals... which should prove amusing going through England during the World Cup! We have attached in the photos a rough route of our intended route, and if any of you feel like joining us along the way, we would welcome the company!

We will be doing this unsupported (no support cars, what we leave Glasgow with must do us until we reach our goal). It is a daunting challenge, but something we both feel confident in achieving and both of us are now really looking forward to starting.

For those of you on Facebook, we will be starting a Blog, which will be updated each day to keep you all informed of our progress and tales along the way.

Enough about us, here's a little bit of information on our chosen charity...

All money raised will go to the charity Yorkhill Children’s Foundation which supports and enhances the care given to sick children at Yorkhill Hospital in Glasgow. Thanks to the generosity of people throughout Scotland, the foundation has helped provide a diverse but vital range of resources, these include new and innovative equipment for many wards and departments, improvements to the Intensive Care Unit, scanners, a family crèche, specially trained children’s entertainers, paediatric research and training and MediCinema - the first cinema in a UK childrens hospital. All of these help to put a smile back on children’s faces.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Thank you for taking the time to have a look at our page and if you are kind enough to donate, we really appreciate it.
