The desire to do the Inca trail isn’t a New Year’s resolution or a reaction to the mid life crisis (or so they’ve promised me!)

Ian and Rob hatched a plan to do the Inca Trail one Friday morning in October during a coffee morning to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).  After supporting Janet and I in our fundraising efforts firstly for Breast Cancer and then GOSH, they’ve decided to take on the baton (although I don’t believe for a minute that Janet and I are off the hook when it comes to helping with the fundraising or being involved in the training!).

So why are they fundraising for GOSH?  Our Son Benjamin was born with a condition called Epispadias which affects around 4-5 babies born a year in Great Britain.  This has affected Ben’s kidneys, bladder and urinary tract.  He has been under the care of GOSH since he was 4 weeks old and will continue to be so until he is 18.  Benjamin faces a number of operations and challenges but with his personality and the support from GOSH, we believe he will take it all in his stride.

Attending GOSH is an incredibly humbling experience for a number of reasons – the other patients and parents you see and meet and the staff that care for your child and support us as parents.  Ben enjoys his visits to GOSH and is starting to recognise the team who have had and will continue to play a significant role in his life.  Ben has a great team looking after him and we owe them a very HUGE THANK YOU and a huge amount of gratitude.  And fundraising for them is our way of showing them our appreciation for all that they do for Ben and us as a family and for all the work they do for other children and their families.

Why is Rob supporting our cause?  Since walking the Moonwalk with Janet 2½ years ago, Rob and Janet have become good friends of ours and have supported us in our previous fundraising efforts for GOSH.  Ian and Rob both have the same lust for travel and adventure and that coupled with the opportunity to raise money for a great cause, Janet and I couldn’t stop their enthusiasm and willingness to do the Inca Trail.

I’m not sure it has quite sunk in just what the commitment is that they’ve made, but we know that they’ll put their best foot forward and complete the Inca Trail in November 2010.

We all really appreciate your support – THANK YOU

Regards

Judith
