Story

Some may describe the ICIS Heren walking team as strong, brave and courageous, others may say a little bit slap happy. But when it comes to market reporting and hiking, the ICIS Heren team are second to none. So are climbing the three highest mountains of the British Isles: Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon. So, without a shadow of doubt - you should sponsor us now. The money is going to support a redevelopment project in Kumi, a village in Ladakh, in the Indian Himalaya. Nestled in the mountain ranges of Zangskar, this ancient buddhist village has been forced to uproot itself and move to the banks of river. The move was brought about because of a dwindling water supply, sourced from an ice sheet resting on the peaks of the mountains. As weather patterns have altered, the community can no longer depend on enough snow fall - which builds up the ice sheet during the winter - to melt and irrigate their fields in the summer Funds are needed to build irrigation channels and field boundaries for the new village. The channels need to be strengthened and reinforced and equipment needs to be fitted to filter out river sediments. The compacted arid land needs to be prepared for crops, and new houses must be built. Thanks for your support - and keep in tocuh for updates on Kumi!
