Hi everybody, I have finally competed and completed my Triathlon on Sunday the 2nd.
It was an amazing day. I had pleanty of friends there to support me and despite having a chest infection on the day, and "hitting the walll" with 2.5 kilometres to go, I managed to complete the course in 2 hours 43 minutes and 2 seconds.
I did this in memory of my mother, and with my mother in my mind all the way round the course. Thank you for all your support in helping me to achieve this goal.
In December my mother, Irene, passed away after an extremely brief battle with Pancreatic Cancer.
Despite being a fairly knowledgeable individual I didn’t even know Pancreatic Cancer existed let alone how poor the prognosis is. In the UK only 3% of people who contract the disease survive more than 3 years; the average life expectancy is around 6 months. Due to the nature of the disease people rarely know they have a problem until the cancer has spread too far to be treatable, there is no know cure and no screening methods available.
Unfortunately for my mother there was nothing anyone could have done to improve her situation. Irene was a strong woman and not a fan of the Doctors. She walked into hospital, feeling quite unwell on the 2
nd of December and passed away on the 28
th with her family by her side.
As a result I feel strongly that I should support the organisation that helped me the most.
Cancer Research spent £4 million pounds specifically on pancreatic cancer last year and raised a further £329 million to fund other cancer research projects, 40% of money is spent on general research that is relevant to all cancers.
Not only this but its website has a great deal of up to date information on all forms of cancer, patient information, useful links to other organisations and advise and support for people like me dealing with the loss of a much loved mother.
Despite being retired and on a small income Mum gave regularly to Cancer Research UK.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cancer Research gets your money faster and, if you’re a taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me today, thank you.
