Story
HEY EVERYONE I DID IT. I MANAGED 5hrs 42 seconds. MY LEGS WENT AFTER 15 MILES BUT I GRITTED MY TEETH AND CARRIED ON WITHOUT STOPPING (APART FROM GOING FOR A WEE BEHIND A BUSH ;-))) I HAD A MORAL SUPPORT FROM A WOMAN CALLED BEV WHO RAN WITH ME FOR THE LAST 6 MILES, WE WERE BOTH SUFFERING BADLY BUT KEPT EACH OTHER GOING. I'M SUFFERING NOW WITH SORE LEGS AND SOME CHAFFING WHERE MY SHORTS AND BRA TOP RUBBED (I'LL LEAVE THAT TO YOUR IMAGINATION!!!) THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTED ME, I HONESTLY COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU. xx
My name is Natasha Shaw and I am a Police Sergeant in Lancashire Constabulary. I currently work within the Hate Crime and Diversity Unit at Burnley Police Station, Parker Lane, Burnley. My current role consists primarily of working with different organisations and communities to build cohesion within our area of Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale.
It's through my work that I met Mohammed 'Ashy' Arshad who is a Youth Worker in Pendle (Nelson and Colne). Ashy has worked tirelessly for years helping local kids both through his work and voluntarily, over these years he has made a massive impact to a large number of these kids changing their lives for the better.
About 6 months ago I found out that Ashy had 2 years previously lost his beautiful 17 years old daughter Yasmin to Leukemia. Around the same time I was given an Amir Khan boxing glove by the The Free Spiritual Centre to auction off for charity.
I got talking to Ashy about this and he told me that his daughter Yasmin loved Amir Khan, she had posters of him all over her walls and talked about him constantly. Wtih this in mind I told Ashy that I would donate half of the money raised for this boxing glove to the Anthony Nolan Trust to help keep the memory of Yasmin.
It just seemed to be a natural progression that when I decided to run the 2008 London Marathon that I approach Ashy and ask if I could run in memory of Yasmin. thankfully Ashy and his family gave me their blessing.
I have been training hard for this walk round the block and hope to achieve around a 4 hour time. If I do this I will take almost 40 minutes off my previous time. If I manage this I will be overwhelmed.
I realise that there is a saying that charity begins at home, and there is always someone asking for a donation to this or a donation to that. I realise that I am no different but without all of our help charities like the Anthony Nolan Trust can't help find a cure, or improve vital treatment, or help individuals and families in need. Even if you are only able to give £1 it still makes a difference and would be overwhelmingly appreciated.
Thank you on behalf of me, Ashy and the rest of Yasmin's family for taking the time to read this page and making a donation. We need your help.
Love
Natasha
