Story
13th September 2009 - Ride for Shelter2
Mission accomplished - Twenty brave souls from Inspace (Southgate/Homes), Circle Anglia & calfordseaden donned suitably padded shorts to cycle the gruelling forty miles around six Circle Anglia development sites across London from Hendon through Islington to Westminster, to Deptford, returning to the Southgate office via Islington again.
The fastest team completed the circuit in three hours, setting a blistering pace amongst the Capital's traffic before setting an even faster pace to the bar at the White Hart.
Well done eveyone on a fantastic achievement and a massive thank you to all those who gave up their time to support the event (particularly Julie !) and a similar thank you to all that very kindly donated to our worthy cause.
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page - please spread the word.
Shelter - Until there’s a home for everyone It beggars belief that in our affluent nation, one of the richest in the world, millions of people in wake up every day in housing that is run-down, overcrowded or dangerous. Thousands more have lost their homes altogether. Bad housing robs us of security, health and a fair chance in life. Shelter believes that everybody needs a home in a place where they can thrive. Our work won’t stop until there’s a home for everyone. Shelter is the largest national housing and homelessness charity and a leading expert on housing in . Launched in 1966 in response to the shocking human cost of bad housing, Shelter continues, four decades on, to fight the ill-effects of housing deprivation through front-line projects and campaigning for the political will to tackle its root causes. The two key strategic aims that encompass all of Shelter’s work are to: · make sure that people in housing need can access and keep a home · drive up the supply of affordable homes in places where people can thrive Rising unemployment, debt and repossessions are accelerating demand for our services today, and Shelter must meet this demand. In December 2008 we received a 460% increase in calls compared to 2007. It is a shocking statistic that 200 homes are now being repossessed on a daily basis – one every 8 minutes. With 1.9 million people on council house waiting lists, 84,000 households officially homeless in 2008 and 1.6 million children in growing up homeless or in bad housing, we need your support more than ever to help the increasing number of people in housing need. With your support, we can make a difference to the lives of thousands of people each year and push for change to break the cycle of homelessness. We promise that your gift will be wisely invested. Help us now to make today’s a better place to live in and to ensure that tomorrow’s housing means a real home for everyone.
