Thanks for taking the time to visit the Intrinsic JustGiving page.
Ok, the training is coming along nicely. We are nearly there. Some people even have their own boots! We've had a few injury scares and one (Rio Ferdinand) setback, but Ben has come through with a new striker for us.Everyone here is really looking forward to pitting themselves against some tough opposition. Good grief, there are Investment bankers and consultants out there that we need to beat, plus an all ladies team! It looks like our Legend mentor on the day may be ex-liverpool and Republic of Ireland International Jason McAteer so we are hoping for some good pointers from him.
All your support is really gratefully received. Let's make the World Cup live for South Africa and the kids there.
Please read on below for more information about the charity and how your donations will help.
In a just few days time we'll be taking part in a charity football competition in support of a fantastic kids charity, the one-to-one children's fund. By harnessing the excitement generated by the 2010 FIFA World Cup as a vehicle for social change we're aiming to make a difference in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Supported by Legends of yesteryear we'll be trying to get to the charity final which will be referred by Worl cup referee legend Pierluigi Collina himself
The one-to-one charity's aim is to raise over £100,000 which will go directly into local programmes in Africa to combat HIV/AIDS. Through Whizzkids United (WKU) One-to-One has developed a successful model which combines a sustainable HIV/AIDS school education Life Skills programme with football training and a “World Cup” graduation tournament. One to One and WKU recently launched a one year HIV prevention pilot programme in Rustenburg in the North West Province in South Africa. It's estimated that as many as 4,000 children could benefit directly from their Life Skills Course in local primary schools by March 2010. Rustenburg is a 2010 World Cup venue and will be the base camp and training ground for the England team.
This programme aims to create an AIDS-free generation in a unique and innovative way, by breaking down stigma and providing long term, sustainable HIV/AIDS education and awareness leading to permanent behaviour changes, acquisition of vital life skills and building of self esteem. By employing the language of football, school children vulnerable to HIV/AIDS are educated on the dangers of the disease and are taught life skills aiming to bring about positive behavioural changes in their life as children and young adults. The Life Skills programme empowers both boys and girls by including them equally.
Please help us by sponsoring to whatever degree you can to help curb the spread of this terrible disease.
