Story
My name is Jono and I’m a former Royal Marines Commando,
after 15 years’ my Career was cut short due to Injuries sustained on active duty. I have since trained as a Level 4 Personal Trainer and been working for the Motivational Preparation College of Training (MPCT) based in Ryde on the Isle of Wight. In 2016 I was being treated for PTSD at the Gables in Newport, after every session I took some time out and sat in my car quietly to process the prior session, it was here that I was exposed to the Earl Mountbatten Hospice as they shared the same real estate.
I decided that I’d like to do my bit to help this charity however small or big I’d try my best to assist the burden this charity carries. This is when I thought of the Fridge Challenge, I’d try to get around the Isle of Wight, all 106km, in under 24 hours carrying a 50kg Fridge on my back! This challenge alone will no doubt throw up some real hurdles for me and the Injuries I still carry to this day due to operational service around the World, but that is nothing compared to what the families that pass through the Hospice have to endure, which gives me the motivation to crack on and achieve it.
I am getting so much support as this Adventure starts to gain momentum from an ongoing Bespoke Training Package from Crossfit Incursion, Physiotherapy support from PhysioCare in Ryde
and Sponsored Training equipment from Love Running in Newport and Finally the Most Important Item “The Fridge!” supplied by The Earl Mountbatten Hospice Shop also in Newport and adapted to carry by Andy at Ryde Inshore Rescue.
