Story

Where do i start.

My family has suffered from cancer on 3 separate occasions - my brother in law, my mum and my dad.

I have seen first hand how devastating this disease can be. While my brother in law and mum got through their battles, unfortunately my dad could not.

My dad passed away on 7th August 2019 from Liver Cancer, an illness he battled through for over 5 years. Many people who will be reading this know of my dad's journey as he wasn't scared to talk about it, so I wont waffle on.  If you didn't know my dad, there aren`t enough words for me to describe him but I am going to mention 3 qualities he had. He was protective, a fixer & had no filter!

If you want to chat about him or ask questions, come on my twitch stream on the 21st August 2020 starting at 8pm for 24 hours straight and i will talk about him till the cows come home.

During his journey he used Cherry Lodge Cancer Care as this helped him with various things and where he could feel like he was just like everyone else.  He went there for massages and counselling and I feel this charity helped him along his journey. There will be a little scope about what Cherry Lodge does in the community at the end.

My dad ran a blog about his journey with Cancer which can be seen at the link below

https://1liver1life.wordpress.com/

He always had a few sentences at the end of every blog.

Don’t forget that what you do today shows your loved ones exactly how you feel about them.

If one or both of your parents are still with you, pick up the phone and check on them. Your kids and grandkids, take the opportunity to hug them and tell them how proud they make you.

If you are in a relationship, have a kiss and a cuddle. We never know if we will get that chance tomorrow.

The reason why I am doing this is because Cherry Lodge help so many people in the community,  there is always time to give back and say Thank you.

Cherry Lodge Cancer Care is an independent charity committed to improving the quality of life for people living with cancer, their carers, family and friends.
At Cherry Lodge, we work alongside the clinical care of the NHS in an area centred on Barnet and covering much of North London and South Hertfordshire. We are based at the very friendly and welcoming Cherry Lodge Centre, in Union Street, Chipping Barnet. We also have an Outreach Service with an impact across the borough of Barnet, concentrating particularly on providing information and support to members of black and minority ethnic groups. Our Befriending Service provides additional support for people in their own homes.
Cancer continues to be a priority for the NHS, and the last decade has seen real progress in the diagnosis and treatment of many different types of cancer. Survival rates in this country are now significantly better than before, but the number of cases is rising each year and national resources are stretched. There is an unmet need and a growing demand for the services we provide.
Our services, which are provided free of charge, focus on the provision of high-quality cancer support, information and complementary therapies. These are delivered by cancer nurse specialists and by therapists with appropriate qualifications and insurance. All our staff, and the many volunteers who work alongside them, attach great importance to the practical, emotional and physical well-being of our Members (the people who use our services).
Cherry Lodge Cancer Care is now completely dependent on voluntary contributions following the cutting of the NHS and local government grants that previously covered a small percentage of our running costs. Please help our work by fundraising, volunteering, donating money or goods, or by purchasing items from our shop in Church Passage, Barnet
