Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  I have entered The Drumlanrig Tearfund Challenge on Saturday 3rd of May 2014 to cycle 100 miles for Teen Challenge Strathclyde.  I have paid my entry donation to Tearfund, so now this is your chance to donate to Teen Challenge Strathclyde.  Last year I struggled to do the first 60 miles so I intend to do better in 2014!

Teen Challenge Strathclyde was founded in 1994, and works to improve the lives of the homeless and marginalized within Scotland. It is our vision to work towards a country free from addiction. At present we have 120 volunteers who each give at least 4 hours per week to our mission.

Currently we have 3 main branches of the charity. We work closely with the community by providing converted buses as mobile outreach centres in over 16 locations across Scotland throughout the week, offering food, hot drinks and the first point of contact with individuals who are socially marginalized.  We offer them hope and encouragement for a better life.

Along with the Bus Outreach programme, we also run Cafes where addicts and the homeless are welcomed in and shown a safe and accepting place and offered hope plus options to escape addiction.

Our Schools programme is part of our prevention work and involves educating school pupils on the effects of short and long term substance misuse.  We travel to a number of schools where we conduct presentations to the pupils and teachers. This has been welcomed by many school authorities.

The Tearfund Drumlanrig Challenge is organised and supported by members of churches from Dumfries and Nithsdale. Their aim is to provide participants with a memorable and enjoyable cycling challenge in the glorious scenery and traffic free roads around Drumlanrig Castle, and at the same time raise funds for Tearfund. Participants have the choice of a 100 miles, a 62 miles or a 40 miles cycling challenge. I have chosen 100 miles and will  have the added challenge(!) of tackling the copious supplies of sandwiches and home baking provided by the church members at the feed stations.
