Thank you for visiting my fundraising page
My Name is James Burns and currently I'd struggle to run around the block! So the idea of running 26.2 miles is somewhat of a daunting challenge. As you may or may not be aware, I have embarked on an epic journey, one that will test my mental and physical strength to the limit. In about eight months time I will attempt to run the marathon!
Anyone that knows me will realise I am neither the thinnest nor fittest man in the world and I do enjoy the odd cold beer or 5! At school I was always a poor runner. I remember dreading the annual 1500m race and the seemingly endless cross country runs that would normally see me strolling along at the back with the fat kids. Therefore, as you can imagine, running 26.2 miles around in April is going to be a seemingly impossible task.
So why am I doing it I hear you ask. Well, it’s not just a journey of self discovery, its not just an extreme attempt at weight loss, it is more than that. It is a chance for me to attempt the impossible, prove to myself that I can do absolutely anything….or at least that’s half of the reason.
There is obviously a much bigger picture. I have decided to run for Oxfam, a charity that needs little introduction. They are a phenomenal charity that have campaigned for years to help rid the world of poverty. They were pioneers in not just giving aid, but giving communities in crisis the support so that they can help them to help themselves. Oxfam not only provides support across the globe, but are also poised to provide emergency support to places in crisis. I am sure that you will agree, that Oxfam are an amazing charity that carries out incredible work world wide. The money I am able to raise will go towards helping some very needy people indeed.
As I am sure you are aware, Oxfam make a massive difference to thousands of people all across the world. The money the raise in April, could pay for approximately 875 mosquito nets in africa, 6 rain water tanks in Brazil or nearly 15 bicycle ambulances. So please, please donate as much as you can. You really can make a massive difference.
Thank you in advance for all of your help & support & I look forward to surviving beyond the 25th April next year.
