Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
I am taking part in the 4 Deserts Sahara Race. Like the Marathon des Sables, it is a six-day, 250 km run through the Sahara. We’ll be carrying our own gear, food and clothing, but as some consolation, water, tents and medical assistance will be on hand.
Being a pasty Scot, I am not known for my love of heat or indeed running, so I thought this would be a perfect event to really push myself to the limit in the name of charity. I’ve chosen to run for Dogs for the Disabled.
My sister was diagnosed with chronic Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of 18 and has become progressively handicapped over time, restricting her movement and ability to perform even some simple tasks. Four years ago, she received a dog, Teal, from Dogs for the Disabled. As well as being a great companion, Teal helps my sister lead a fuller, more independent life.
This year, the charity has also launched a new project to train assistance dogs for children with autism, providing a new focus and support for the whole family.
Looking at my sister and the support she gets from Teal, I can tell you wholeheartedly that Dogs for the Disabled is an extremely beneficial charity providing an invaluable service.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Dogs For The Disabled gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Many thanks.
