Story
Thank You for visiting my fundraising page. I am running the London 2010 Marathon in memory of Chris Smith. She was a truly wonderful lady and an Inspiration to all who met her. Chris died in October 2008 after only being diagnosed with cancer in August 2008. Her loss was so tragic. I miss her so much and think back with fondness about the daily conversations at work. Chris had such a wonderful sense of humour and sharp wit. Any jokes would come back with interest. She was so kind, clever and generous. She is sorely missed by everyone who had the good fortune to have known her. To cross that finish line and to have raised my sponorship aim for St Catherine's will easily be the best day of my life.
I am running the London Marathon 2010 after injury resulted in me having to postpone the 2009 Marathon. It was the saddest day seeing other people fufilling their dreams and running for their loved one's or friends and being able to run, when I was desperate to run for St Catherine's and Chris. This totally devastated me as I thought I had let everyone down and I felt so terrible about it that I felt unable to tell people as I was too down about it.
Luckily my place was rolled over to April 2010. I have just completed the 2009 Bupa Great South Run (10 miles) in Portsmouth and the training is going well. If the unthinkable was to happen. I will walk, crawl, hobble and go on crutches to complete it.To achieve this goal and for St catherine's will be the proudest moment of my life.
To complete 26.2 miles is a huge challenge, but it doesn't start there. There is so much dedication that goes into the training and preparing to run a marathon. One needs to run over 35 miles a week to train for it. So your donations make all the runs in the freezing cold, rain the pulls, strains, aches and blisters seem worth it.
Thank You so much for hopefully deciding to sponsor me. Your donation really means a lot to me and to St Catherine's Hospice (Crawley) and to the family of Chris Smith.Thank You so much for being so kind and generous. If you know of anyone else who would sponsor me please let them know my web address or put them in touch with me jameshayton76@gmail.com as I still need to raise well over a £1000 for the hospice which relies solely on donations and needs an annual sum of £4.7 million of voluntary income to fund their work
A little about me. Now I'm no Paula Radcliffe.....I'm James Hayton. The maximum distance I had run was three miles after missing the last train ! While training for in 2009 I had got upto 8 miles.. I was looking forward to doing the Brighton half marathon and then injury struck. Ultrasounds and X-rays, after countless physio sessions eventually came up with the decision that I was ruled out of the 09 event. Now I have done 10 miles after the Great South Run and that makes me so determined to do the Marathon.
Running the London Marathon for Chris and training for it will be all the motivation I need. Sadly I never got the opportunity to tell her that I was going to do this for her, but I know it means a lot to her family and friends. I feel honoured to be getting the chance to run this great event and it means everything to me to be able to do this for Chris and St Catherine's.
Chris however would be in fits of giggles imagining me running 26 miles. St Catherine's Hospice were fantastic to Chris and her family. Please give generously to enable them to help and support other people in their time of need.
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
Kindest regards
James Hayton
