Story

I am really excited that you have visited my fundraising page for my 'Run to the Midnight Sun'

This year I have taken up the
People & Planet Low Carbon Challenge of travelling to Tromso in the very far north of Norway (via Germany and the G8). Once in Tromso I will be competing in the Midnight Sun Marathon 2007

I am fundraising for People & Planet which, I believe is well worth your support in its fight for Environmental and Social Justice. That is also why I am travelling to Tronso over land and water making a point of not flying. This will take me all the way to 70 degrees north and back again, that's well in the arctic circle! It is also where you can already see the effects of dangerous climate change.

So please dig deep and sponsor me on this fantastic journey as an example of low carbon fun, physical endurance and an exciting fundraising oppotunity for  People & Planet.

all the best

Update 31st of May

It is a cold wet Thursday morning in Oxford and my bags are packed. Today is the beginning of a three week expedition or my ‘Low Carbon Challenge’ that will take me to the G8 in Germany, then on up to the 26 mile Midnight sun marathon in Tromso within the Artic Circle and then back to the UK overland. I will experience the Joys of over 36 hours of Buses, 50 hours of trains and over 40 hours on boats, plus a further 12 hours of running counting the training still needed.

As you can imagine I am more than a little nervous. But the one thing I have got to thank you all for is your kind support, as with out it I am not sure that I would have made it so far. Thanks to everyone’s kind donations I have managed to raise over £1400 plus gift aid. Further more I have been promised by one kind supporter that they will match me 10% of the final total. So I still have a lot still to raise so please if you know anyone who could sponsor me please forward this email as supporting People & Planet is well worth it.

Since January when we launched the Low Carbon Challenge climate change has really moved up the public eye, I am sure I don’t need to tell you how it important it is that we keep the pressure on and thanks to all the money raise People & Planet have really ambitious plans next year. We are increasingly working with students all over the world to campaign. Recently we are building strong links with Chinese students making sure that china is not an excuse to do something, but an opportunity to get the worlds largest economy to go green. But all this work needs your money.

Since January on a personal level I have managed to lose 2 stone, run 500 miles and bore the tits of most of my friends by talking about running. I have new personal best on both the 10km and half marathons and I have already signed up to the Bristol Half marathon to keep my fitness up and beat that PB. (Don’t worry, no sponsorship, just for fun!)

So as I say good bye and catch my first bus I will hope to keep updates on the People & Planet website of the G8 (www.peopleandplanet.org) or send them to my facebook group the James low carbon challenge (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2953845703) which incidentally has over 125 members! Please direct people to my just giving page for donations (www.justgiving.com/jameslloyd)

All the best and thanks again you guys are great!
