Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

We are raising money for Robin House.  Our amazing son Alfie was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1 aged only 7 weeks old.  Alfie was a wee fighter but the fight became too much for him and he fell asleep in our arms on Tuesday 9th July at Robin House surrounded by love.

Robin House played a major part in Alfie's life, without their help, support and compassion we wouldn't have created the memories we did. We are now part of the CHAS family, and we want to give something back to allow Robin House to continue to support other families and let them create precious memories like we did.  Robin House is a truly amazing place, with friends not staff,  who go above and beyond to ensure they can make children's lives amazing for their journey. Alfie had a great time at Robin House from paddling in the hydro pool, creating hand and foot prints, a pool party and his cousins Aimee and Ali made amazing memories boxes.

From our first visit arriving at Robin House on the 8th February, to our final visit when we left to a guard of honour on the 16th July, the care and love felt for Alfie was overwhelming. He was loved by everyone in Robin House, he always had a queue of friends wanting to see how he was doing, they were fighting over who could cuddle him which was a challenge as I never put him down from the day he was diagnosed until the day we said goodbye.

Spinal Muscular Atrophy is a genetic condition in which the nerve cells in the spinal cord that controls our body's muscles are damaged.  The muscles become weaker and wastes away.

* 1 in 40 individuals unknowingly carry the gene

* SMA is the #1 killer of young children
