Hello there!
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I am currently training hard (!) for a gruelling sponsored bike ride up the notorious Mont Ventoux. All the money raised will go to The Marine Conservation Society to help save our precious seas, shores and wildlife. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.
The mountain is an amazing 1909m high, and the ride itself will be about 100km long. It regularly gets put on the Tour de France route (last time was 2005) as it is known for its tough climb - 20km of continuous uphill to get from the leafy vineyards of the valley to the scree and snow of the windswept peak (hence the name Ventoux). My route will be Vacqueyras - Vaison La Romaine - Malaucene - Mont Ventoux - Bedoin (lunch) - Vacqueyras (finish line & dinner!).
So - I'd better get my tight pants on!
Famously, the mountain tragically killed talented British cyclist Tom Simpson in 1967 - he was reported to be on an unhealthy cocktail of performance enhancing drugs and alcohol though! While I, of course, have no intention of following in his footsteps, it is an incredibly challenging ride and I will need your financial inspiration to complete it successfully!
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Marine Conservation Society will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
A quick update - I have been joined on my venture by the intrepid boat deisgner, builder, lighting technician and all-round good egg, Simon Macer-Wright. Simon is travelling with his bike all the way from London the day before the ride, and travelling back the day after, to get back to his lovely wife and child - good on you Simon!
Many thanks for your support.
Allez-Y
Jean-Luc
