Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.

Our son Jeevan was born 6th October 2006. Born at 24 weeks and 2 days he rushed into this world 16 weeks early weighing just 760 grams.

Over the next 12 weeks Jeevan withstood many many hurdles. He surprised us all with his incredible strength and even in this short time his character began to shine through. We were with Jeevan every single day, staying at the parents rooms within the hospital for almost 5 weeks. In the end, after 12 long weeks an infection reached his lungs causing them to collapse, Jeevan passed away on 30th December 2006.

During our time at the NICU we built strong ties with the nurses, the consultants and eventually other parents.  We will never be able to express our gratitude to the entire NICU staff, they were all amazing. Although Jeevan is not with us today, we want to give something back.  With your help we hope to raise £40,000 to buy an incubator and other equipment in his memory.

The UK has the highest rate of low birth weight babies in Western Europe. About 300 babies are born here each year at 23 weeks. As we found out this can happen to anybody, so its vital that the right equipment is available. You never know when you may need it. So what will we be doing to earn your donations?

POLYCOM RAFFLE - Polycom kindly donated BA airline tickets to be raffled off for Jeevan's Fund. On Monday 3rd September the raffle was drawn with Anisha Topiwalla-Tailor winning 1st prize (2* BA tickets to Australia) and Ray McGroarty a.k.a "Polycom Hobbler"  winning 2nd prize (2* BA tickets to Nice). In just 10 short weeks this raffle generated £2,035 for Jeevan's Fund. Furthermore Polycom's Global Citizenship Program will enable Polycom employees to almost DOUBLE the amount raised through it's Donation Matching program.

2008 READING HALF MARATHON - On Sunday 2nd March the new and improved Polycom Hobblers (Ray, Chantal, Andrew and Julian) ran the Reading marathon. By running these great people raised another £645 for Jeevan's Fund - Thanks AGAIN Polycom Hobblers.

On WEDNESDAY 31ST OCTOBER Manoj and Shaz flew to Vietnam and cycled 450kms from the north to the south of the country. Starting in Hanoi they passed through Hue to Hoi Anthen then along quiet back roads to My Son. They then took the coast roads via the Marble Mountains to Danang on to Nha Trang finally ending up at Ho Chi Minh City.

2007 READING HALF MARATHON - On Sunday 25th March Ray, Trevor, Steve and Andrew (aka The Polycom Hobblers) ran the Reading half Marathon to raise money for Jeevan's Fund.  Including Gift Aid and a late donation from Polycom for £3,923 The Polycom Hobblers raised an amazing £16,582 !

FLAG TELECOMS "FLAB FOUR" - In March 2007 four FLAG Telecom employees; Prue Combellack, Brendan Lynch, Dan Minns & Peter Hutterli (aka The Flab Four) decided to raise awareness and money for Jeevan's Fund through getting fit and loosing a bit of weight. At the initial weigh-in (28th March) their collective weight was 796 lbs. At the final weigh-in (4th July) their weighed 752 lbs. Meaning they lost 45 lbs whilst raising a flab-busting £1,030 !
