Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Sarah and I initially decided to run a  10K race as motivation to keep running through Winter.  Once we registered for the Chichester 10k in February we thought we would like to also raise some money for a fantastic charity in the process – enter AICR (Association for International Cancer Research).

For me, this charity has personal significance as in April 2008 my mum was diagnosed with a very rare brain tumour.  Due to it’s location it is inoperable but has thankfully responded incredibly well to gamma knife therapy.  The Gamma Knife is a type of radiation therapy that targets specific areas without destroying surrounding tissues so can be incredibly successful in treating brain tumours.  The Gamma Knife was developed by Swedish scientists and doctors between 1940 and 1970 and has saved many lives like my mum’s.

I would love to be part of a team raising money for such important causes worldwide and help scientists develop other new techniques and equipment to help to save other peoples’ lives.  If you do help us and donate to AICR your support can:

£10 – will enable a research scientist to grow cancer cells in a test tube.  This will help further their understanding of how cancer cells function

£50 – will cover the cost of analyzing a sample of cancer tissue.  This will improve scientists’ knowledge of how cancer develops

£100 – will pay for a computer analysis on the structure of a new cancer drug.  This will enable scientists to move closer towards developing a potentially life-saving medication

£1000 – will allow a top scientist to examine the make-up of a cancer gene.  This is an essential part of helping scientists understand how this disease spreads and kills – and how it can he beaten

So please help us support this amazing charity.  If you would also like to attend and support us along the way our red, sweaty faces would greatly appreciate it !!

Many thanks,

Jemima and Sarah
