We stand for everyone affected by dementia to find a cure
Story
I am very sad to say that my mum passed away on Easter Sunday. As I am sure most of you know, she had suffered from Alzheimer’s for 10 years. This is a terribly cruel and punishing disease which affects over 700,000 people in the alone including 17,000 under 65 (Jenny was just over 50 when she was diagnosed). In some ways my mother was lucky to have been spared the many years of suffering that some patients endure. She will be missed terribly by us all, especially my father who gave her the best care she could possibly have had and showed immense courage and strength throughout her illness.
The sad truth is that for every pound spent on dementia care only a fraction of a penny is spent on research into defeating the condition. In addition, despite the fact that dementia costs the economy twice as much as cancer, it only receives a twelfth of the funding.
