On Sept 7th 2008 I will be running the Adidas 5k Challenge around Hyde Park London and the charity that I will be supporting is Meningitis Research Foundation.

In Dec 2005 my niece Summer Louise became a victim of Meningitis at the age of 3 months old.

Summer was showing symptoms of a high temperature and was a bit grizzly. At the time we thought she was suffering with a cold but later that day Summer suffered a fit like seizure on her changing mat and was rushed to Lister Hospital, Stevenage. 

Later that evening Summer was diagnosed with pneumococcal meningitis and we were told She could die or be left brain damaged.  The next 24hours were crucial and as a family we prayed that we would be able to bring are little girl home for her 1st Christmas.

About a week later Summer Louise made a full recovery and 3 years on Summer is a bright, bubbly and lndependent child with the spirit of a fighter.

As a victim of Meningitis, Summer was lucky as many victims do suffer post symptoms of Deafness, Blindness, Epilepsy / seizures and in some cases Weakness, paralysis or spasms of the body.

The Foundation also promotes education and awareness to reduce death and disability, and gives support to people affected.
