On June 25th & 26th 2010, Gav (Moggy) Morris, Steve (Mr Britas) Pitt, Chris (Jizz) Jarry & Jo (Helm) Thompson are embarking on a 2 day challenge in the heart of Snowdonia. We are raising funds and awareness for Testicular Cancer through Everyman.

We have all begun our rigorous training schedules and are fast becoming finely tuned athletes, well sort of!

The first days will start with a 14 mile cycle from Pen-y-Gwryd to Rhyd Ddu. We are aiming to complete this leg in approximately 2hrs. From here we will begin our ascent of Snowdon in around a time of 2 hrs. Once at the summit, and after a couple of photos, we will begin the descent via the Pyg track to the car park at Pen-y-Pass. We will be met by our wonderfull support team, (volunteers TBC), who will greet us with a rewarding beer, OOPS, I mean recovery shake!

The second day begins in the same fashion, with a cycle of approximately 10 miles from Llanddeiniolen to Nant Peris within 1 1/2 hrs. The second leg of the day is a hike up to devils kitchen and back down again in around 4hrs. We will then be meeting up with our support team and, subject to availability and time, we are hoping to finish the day with an absail or white water stage.

We will keep you all updated with the progress of training and final details etc, thanks to you all for looking and reading.

We have already raised approxr £400 from the Night at the Dogs we arranged and would like to thank all that came and braved the lovely spring weather we were having, (cold, wet & windy).

UPDATE... 5th of June. Gav & Jo (aka Moggy & Helm) organised a volleyball tournement at the Bird in Hand Pub, Lower Stondon. This went off well, with some very enthusiastic comptitors and their friends/partners etc. The weather was kind to us, Just! The surprise package of the competition were the Young ones. The Wombles (Moggy & Helm) gave a good account but were runners up to the Eggheads (Britas & Daniel). In terms of donations we manaed to raise another £100 ish (totl to be confirmed). We would like to thank everyone that came and suported the event and gave generously. And a BIG THANKS TO ALL AT "THE BIRD" for letting us use their garden!!!!

UPDATE...A quick message to all that have donated so far.

We travelled up to Snowdonia on the Thursday 24th June and arrived at our campsite with time to set up camp and have a spot of dinner, (although it was the midgies that were doing most of the feasting!!)

We woke the next morning to a bright sunny day and were keen to get going. The original route we chose for the cycle was reversed to make it more of a challenge, (the route would have been down hill most of the way) and so we cycled from our campsite near Beddgelert up to the car park for the start of the miners track for the Snowdon climb. It was quite steep in places but a good pace was set and we arrived in the car park after 55 mins and some 11 hard felt miles crunched! (DId I mention it was all uphill!!)

After a quick change of footwear, we began our ascent of Snowdon, starting on the Miners trail before joining the Pyg track to the Summit. With just a few quick breaks we were at the top in 1 1/2 hrs. A quick re-fuel with some sausage rolls and chocolate we were on our way down to meet Moggy's dad (Mark) who was waiting at the car park in Rhd Ddu. we made it down in just under 1 1/2 hrs and collected our bikes for the final 3 miles back to the campsite, where the promise of a cold river for our feet and a cold beer for the soul would be waiting. As chance would have it, Moggy's rear gear cable snapped on the last mile a we neared the campsite.

Once back at the site we were able to fully appreciate the on site showers before heading into Beddgelert for some well earned pub grub.

After a good eat and a few beers it was back to the site, a bit more liquid refreshment, (only water of course) and off to kip.

Day 2 and more fantastic sunshine. All 5 of us (Moggy's dad Mark included) headed to Devils Kitchen for a proper climb. Unfourtunatly we were unable to cycle as Moggy's bike was dying.

The climb was steady as there were a few aches and strains from the previous day, but we were undeterred and had a great day up in the mountains with clear blue sky and a lot of laughing. The post climb burger in the car park was the stuff dreams are made of, (well almost).

We finished the day with another great pub meal and a night in one of the local inns. The food was great and the laughs were to, We all had a great time and were actually quite chuffed to have organised and completed something really worthwhile.

we would like to take the opportunity to thank each and everyone of you that have donated and taken an interest in what we are doing and it will mean alot to the Everyman Male Cancer Campaign.

We would also like to say a massive thanks to Mark Morris, who not only sourced a transit van to transport the bikes and gear to Wales, but alos drove around to pick them up and then meet us again. He also did a quality climb with us on the Saturday and enjoyed it just as much as we did. So thanks Mark because without you there we would have not been able to complete our challenge!

There are a number of photos that will be on the site soon and maybe on the Everyman site too.

Everyman is an appeal run by The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR). Every year some 10,000 men lose their lives to prostate cancer and over 2,000 others have their world turned upside down by a diagnosis of testicular cancer. These men are the reason we are fundraising for male specific cancers.
