About 8 months ago, as I realised I was fast approaching 30, I made the decision to take on a challenge.  The reasons behind this where a) in the forlorn hope of proving that I was not now over the hill; but more importantly b) to raise money for a worthy cause - Depaul Ireland.

 

I am therefore taking part in the 2010 L’Étape du Tour on July 18^th.  L’Étape du Tour is an organised mass participation cyclosportive event that allows amateur cyclists to race over the same route as a Tour de France stage.  This year it will be the 181 km 17^th stage from Pau to Col du Tourmalet in the Pyrénées.  You can check out the route here.

 

It will be an exciting and very demanding challenge and I hope to raise as much money as possible for a very worthy charity.

 

Depaul Ireland is a homeless charity whose main focus is to provide accommodation and support for homeless people with acute needs, such as: street drinkers, women leaving prison, families and those with behavioural, self-harm and addiction problems.  With services in Belfast, Dublin and Dungannon, they support over 1,110 people each year to make changes in their lives that will help them to move forward.

 

I am a cycling novice, but I have been training hard for 6 months now and have a real determination to complete the course and deliver for all of you who have generously sponsored me.  I am meeting all my own expenses, so every penny raised will go directly to Depaul Ireland.
