Story
The route we are taking will follow the path of Brand of Brothers of Easy Company took during WW2 ending at Hilter's 'Eagles Nest' at Berchtesgaden, in the German Bavarian Alps.
The challenge is something we feel we would be honoured to be a part of to raise very much needed funding for our servicemen and women who have been wounded in war.H4H helps them to reabilitate,builds specially adapted recovery centres and much more.
I shall hopefully have internet access and will be posting updates and photo's as we go.Finger's crossed we won't have too much trouble with the Landrover. I am quite confident in Neil's mechanical skills and we shall be taking spare parts with us!
It goes without saying that the kids can't wait as they will be taking 2 weeks off school ;-)
We are travelling in a 1997 Landrover Discovery 300 tdi with our two children who will be 10 and 12 years old at the time of the rally. We pay for the rally entry fee, ferry, fuel, camping fees and insurance ourselves so every single penny you donate will go straight to the Help for Heroes charity.
This isn't about the politics of war or who's right and wrong.This is about people doing their jobs and coming home badly wounded in doing so.
Please click the links to read more info about the rally and what your donations will actually do to help our wounded soldiers.
We can help.
Thank you so much for your donations.
Jo (AKA Midnight), Neil,Kalon and Nelson.
The HELP FOR HEROES
EUROPEAN 4x4 RALLY |
|||
The rally follows the path and tells the story of the Allied Invasion through Europe and includes parts fabled by the Band of Brothers book and television series. As young men, who knew extraordinary bravery and extraordinary fear, the Allied Forces landed in France early on D-Day morning – 6th June 1944. The liberation of Europe had commenced. In addition to Normandy, the H4H Rally route will visit the Market Garden and Rhine offensives at Arnhem, Holland, where on 17 September 1944, in the largest airborne operation ever seen thousands of paratroopers descended from the sky by parachute or glider up to 150 km behind enemy lines. |

The event will start at Noon on Saturday 19th June 2010 at a secret location in North Wiltshire. After using byways on Salisbury Plain we will all go to Portsmouth to embark on the ferry over to France. Our route moves south, to Bastogne in Belgium where in the coldest winter for decades, the Germans made a final push – the Battle of the Bulge. Towards Germany, the rally routing is via Fort Simserhof, Siersthal in Alsace, France a Maginot Line fortification, then onto Dachau and its horrors of war. We end our journey at Hitler's "impenetrable" Eagle's Nest at Berchtesgaden. |
