Story

Hi. My name is Grace. I have been through a lot in my life already and I am only 2 years old !!!. I have been quite a regular at  Great Ormond Street Hospital and have had life saving surgery and then regular checkups enough to last a life time.

I underwent surgery to correct a very rare condition called Long Segment Tracheal Stenosis. GOSH is the only centre in the UK that treats this condition and is one of the biggest children's hospital's in the world. There are only 4 Hospitals World wide able to treat my condition. The other centers can be found in Chicago, Cincinnati and Madrid. GOSH treat up to 10-12 children a year with Long Segment Congenital Tracheal Stenosis usually between the ages of 6 months and one year. Almost all children survive the surgery but a number with very severe disease may not be able to make it through.

For more details see this link http://www.ich.ucl.ac.uk/gosh/clinicalservices/tracheal_team/Homepage

To raise much needed funds to research this condition, my Mummy (Jo Elkes) & Alex (mummy's and my friend) is running the 2010 Virgin London Marathon on the 25th April 2010 to help children like me and their Mummies and Daddies get through what we have been though since I have been born . Great Ormond Street saved my life and thanks to the Tracheal Team and the expertise of Professor Martin Elliott I am here today!

WELL WE DID IT AND WHAT AN AMAZING DAY I DID IT IN 6 HOURS 35 MINS AND 18 SECONDS AND ALEX DID IT IN 3 HOURS 51 MINS . WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE WHO DONATED AND SUPPORTED US .

AND ALEX PLANS TO DO IT AGAIN NEXT YEAR SO WATCH THIS SPACE.
