Annual cycle ride no.10 · 25 August 2010

Walk Wheel Cycle Trust is the charity making it possible for people to walk, wheel and cycle. Because it changes everything. Our health. Our wellbeing. Our world. We call it people-powered movement. Join us on our journey.

Story

For a number of years now Keith, Richard and Bob have taken turns to organise a cycling holiday. Over the years we have been joined by various family members and friends. Two of these friends, Alan and Fred, enjoyed it so much last year that they are joining us again this year. As this will be our 10th cycle ride we decided to do something special. We've done 2 coast-to-coast cycle rides but never and end-to-end. So this year we are going to attempt the 'big one' - John O'Groats to Land's End. The route we have chosen is 989 miles long which we plan to cover in 18 days (an average of 55 miles per day).

We are fortunate to have a support vehicle and 3 volunteers to drive it. Richard, Bob and Keith have each organised a section of the route. Alan is our Treasurer and Fred our Logistics Manager. There have been times during the organisation of this ride that a number of us have felt that cycling it will be the easy bit!

We have chosen to raise money for Sustrans for a number of reasons. Sustrans instigated the creation of the National Cycle Network that has formed the basis of many of our rides. They also provide detailed maps that make it so much easier for the organiser/navigator. These maps were indispensible before the era of handlebar-mounted satnavs.

If this ride is like the previous nine we will have an enjoyable and no doubt memorable time. It would be an added bonus if we could raise money for the charity that has helped so many get pleasure from cycling and enable them to see parts of the country that you won't see from the road.

Your sponsorship would be very much appreciated.
