We support people with Spinal Cord Injury to help them live full, independent lives

Story

*** RACE RESULT BELOW ***

Thanks for helping me raise funds for ASPIRE, to help people who have suffered spinal cord injuries.

Online sponsorship is the most efficient way for me to raise funds for ASPIRE, since if you are a UK taxpayer your donation will be increased by almost a third at no cost to you!

Both myself and ASPIRE really appreciate your donation. Any amount will make a difference but please try to give generously as it's a REALLY worthy cause which has such a positive impact on peoples lives.

Check back regularly as I'll be updating the site with my training progress before the big event.

**UPDATES**
* Feb 4th 2003 - Training went well in January. Did the Watford Half Marathon on Sunday (1:24:40) and felt pretty good. Only 10 weeks to go... Next big goal is a 20 mile race on 23rd Feb, will update on progress!

* Feb 24th 2003 - Did the Bramley 20 mile race yesterday, finishing 34th (of 767!) in 2:08:07. Very pleased, as I picked up a slight injury this week. If (?!) I could keep that pace for the full marathon, i'd be looking at 2:48, well inside my 2:53 best. Here's hoping!!

* Feb 28th - AGH!! Haven't been able to run a step all week - still problems with my back after last weekends race. 2 physio sessions so far, with another on Monday. VERY frustrating... * Mar 11th - injury update... after 2 weeks of nothing, I think I'm back on track. 5 intensive physio sessions over 2 weeks. Last Wednesday I couldn't run a step, last night I did 4 miles almost pain free. Don't write me off yet!! * April 4th - well, after almost recovering, I fell off my bike in South Africa 2 weeks ago and got injured again! VERY frustrating. More painful massage, and I can now run. Not sure what fitness I have left, but surprisingly I did 65mins for 10 miles at a race on Sunday with no problems. Still, not expecting miracles on the day, but I WILL be there! * April 7th - raced in the snow of Finland on Saturday!! Last race before London, and finished 9th in the Eurpoean Airlines XC Champs. Surprised, and pleased to have run so well. Maybe London will go well...here's hoping! Only 6 days to go now. * April 10th - Race Number is 57449, look out for me in my dark blue 'ASPIRE' vest, with black shorts. Carbo-loading starts now! * April 14th - It’s over! 3 Hours 12 Minutes and 27 seconds – found out that those missed runs due to injury really did make a difference! I completed the first half in 1:25 (as last year), but really struggled after 18 miles. Still, I managed to ensure I finished under 3:15 (to do it all again next year…) and enjoyed the atmosphere and crowds & importantly, raise all this money for ASPIRE! HUGE thanks to everyone who has pledged support – it really is greatly appreciated. Stay Happy! John
